This is our 100th show. At kkrn.org all 100 shows are still available and can be played 24/7. I greatly appreciate KKRN providing me the opportunity to bring smooth jazz to you. The popularity of smooth jazz continues to increase with more live performances that I have been talking about and detailed on my show descriptions the last few weeks. Also the great number of new releases in this format are increasingly hard to cover. When I first started 30 minutes of a program were adequate for coverage but after the first year in order to do new releases justice, the whole first hour became necessary.

From jazz saxophonist Stan Getz, an amazing work of jazz, is a brand new release that in its first week on the Billboard jazz album’s chart came in at an astonishing number two. On November 26th, 1961 saxophonist Stan Getz and his quartet performed at New York’s Village Gate.  The show was professionally recorded but the tape was forgotten as Getz concentrated on the bossa nova boom that we talked about two weeks ago in our classic among classics segment. Getz instead recorded an album that won four Grammys including the first jazz album to win Album of the Year and the prestigious Song of the Year for his recording of Antonio Carlos Jobim’s song The Girl From Ipanema.   The tape of the Village Gate performance was not released and languished in the vaults for 58 years. It was recently discovered with every note recorded that evening. It was released on June 14th by Verve Records. I will play from that recently released album, Getz At The Gate, a Cole Porter tune, It’s Alright With Me, from one of jazz’s true greats, Stan Getz performing with The Stan Getz Quartet.

I have more new releases from Julian Vaughn, Mindi Abair, Althea Rene, Philippe Saisse, Cindy Bradley, Pieces Of A Dream, and Walter Beasley.

In the middle of the first hour I will play Billboard's top three songs in Smooth Jazz. We have a new number one this week.

The second hour is devoted to the classics from smooth jazz.

Our closing classic among classics segment focuses on early work from Kenny G.

Thank you for your continuing support of this program and KKRN.
