Share Tweet Email

In this show, host Ellen Sugg interviews the author of An American Genocide: The United States and the California Indian Catastrophe, 1846-1873. Dr. Benjamin Madley is an Associate Professor of History at the University of California, Los Angeles. HIs book has received numerous prizes, including  the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for History and the Charles Redd Center Award for Best Book on the American West. According to former Governor Jerry Brown, "Madley corrects the record with his gripping story of what really happened: the actual genocide of a vibrant civilization, thousands of years in the making."

The interview was prompted by Dr. Madley's upcoming visit to Redding to present a lecture about An American Genocide on  Saturday, Oct. 19 from 7:00 - 8:30 PM at the Cascade Theater. There is no cost to attend.

Thanks to the local Indigenous Peoples History Day Committee and the sponsors: Shasta Historical Society, Shasta Union High School District, Shasta County Office of Education, Shasta College and the Redding Rancheria Community Fund for bringing Dr. Madley to Redding and to KKRN Community Radio.
