Playing one in memory of Buddy Deppenschmidt   who just passed away in March.  Buddy was a jazz drummer who learned the rhythms of Brazilian music on a State Department tour and then appeared on a best selling 1962 album Jazz Samba which helped launch a worldwide Bossa Nova boom. Bossa Nova roughly translated means new trend. Buddy was the last surviving musician to play on this album, a major hit which remains the only jazz instrumental to reach number one on the Billboard pop chart. Saxophonist Stan Getz won a Grammy Award, became a jazz superstar, and sent his kids through college as a result of this album. Guitarist Charlie Byrd was acclaimed throughout the world for his work. Buddy Deppenschmidt was amazingly only paid $150 for his work. Buddy’s drum contribution can clearly be heard on a song from that album. Written by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luiz Bonfa from the album Jazz Samba that song is I am playing is Desafinado.
