Hey, Joe

For 50 years Melbourne's own Joe Camilleri and his mates have been making music, from Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons, to the Black Sorrows. With Joe up front singing, playing guitar and saxophone, writing and producing, the Sorrows have released 18 albums that have featured more than 30 of Australia’s finest musicians.

Have Mercy - from 1984, the album Sonola, the first Black Sorrows album, with Joe working under the name Joey Vincent - Vincent is his middle name. Featured on the album is George Butrumlis on piano accordion - Sonola, the album's title, is also a world-famous brand of accordion.

July 5, 1997 was opening night of the first all-female touring music festival, Lilith Fair, created by Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan.

Green Tabasco / Words Fail Me - Opelousas, featuring Kerri Simpson and Alison Ferrier on guitars, vocals and more, and drummer Anthony Shortte. from their album Opelousafried, a February 2024 release. Opelousas is also a town in Louisiana that's been called the zydeco capital of the world.

Alive And Brilliant - Deborah Conway from her 1993 album Bitch Epic.

The Day of the Triffids, a 1963 British monster movie based on the 1951 novel by John Wyndham. Also a band from Perth in Western Australia. In 1986 the Triffids released two albums, In The Pines and Born Sandy Devotional. So here's a battle of the bands, Triffids versus Triffids.

Suntrapper - from In The Pines, recorded in a sheep-shearing shed on the McComb family farm - David McComb was the band's songwriter, singer, and played guitar, his brother Robert McComb played guitar and violin.

Lonely Stretch - from their album Born Sandy Devotional, recorded in a London studio in 1985 and released in August 1986. It's widely regarded as one of the best Australian albums.
